
Surendra Labh is a distinguished figure in Nepal’s academic, literary, and policy-making spheres. He served as a Professor of Economics at Tribhuvan University for nearly four decades, during which he not only taught and mentored generations of students but also authored several important books on economics.
Alongside his academic career, Labh has been equally devoted to literature. He writes in Nepali, Maithili, and Hindi, contributing to diverse literary genres such as short stories, poetry, and plays. His notable works in Maithili include “Katha Yatra” and “Narkapalika”, while in Hindi he authored “Mithila ki Darshanik Paramparayein.” He has also edited the anthology “Nepaliya Maithilik Uttam Galpa” and the literary magazine “DhadhaRa.” His versatility across languages and genres marks him as a prominent literary voice of Mithila and Nepal.
Labh has also contributed significantly in the field of policy and governance. He has served as a Board Member of Nepal Government’s Policy Research Institute (PRI), a Member of the National Planning Commission of Nepal, and worked as a Consultant for the UNDP’s Conflict Prevention Project. His engagement in both national and international institutions highlights his wide-ranging expertise and commitment to knowledge, policy, and social progress.
